What Starts at Work

Transfers to Communities

After a fellow completes the 3-month fellowship at work, they're matched with

a local nonprofit, social group, or Welcome Committee aligned with their personal values.

They bring what they learned—how to communicate across differences, navigate conflict, collaborate on something real—and apply it where it matters most to them.

The result: communities get structurally stronger because skilled neighbors are present and actively participating.

43% of Americans participate in ZERO clubs or organizations. (Join or Die)

70% of Americans feel responsible for connecting across differences. Most are interested in working together to achieve a mutual goal that improves their community. (More in Common)

"What works: locally based, personal engagement around a common task, where partisan identity is unimportant and a shared identity does the bridging." (Rachel Kleinfeld, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace)
